Every Western movie has a shootout in the town square. But Hollywood didn’t make this scene up. They can all trace their origins to one summer evening in 1865 Springfield Missouri when Wild Bill Hickok and Davis Tutt drew their guns. It didn’t start the way the Hollywood movies do, but it ended with one man in the dirt and the other becoming a legend.
